Sailor Moon R Brooch

Sailor Moon R Brooch
A few weeks ago I ordered a couple of craft foam sheets in various of colours, to see whether or not they would work for my cosplay. After realising how fun and easy it is to work with, I wanted to show you mine new Sailor Moon brooch. It is huge and if you want it, check out my give away here!

Now back to the brooch. It is made of craft foam in three layers, not perfect but good for a first try, various pearls I could find at home and glued together with school glue.
Blueprint :)
Second layer in cutting process.
Second layer done.
I cut the craft foam with my kitchen scissor and it was easy to correct mistake, as long as it was something to cut away.
It ended up a bit larger than my last brooch. :)

UppCon:10

So I when to UppCon, the biggest convention in Sweden aimed at Japanese Pop Culture. And this is how it went:

Friday: I got up in a decent time this year and met with CarpeDentum and Madiirje on the station. From we got on our train and I finished all the things that had to be finished. And then we finally got to Uppsala, since it takes five hours to go by train. But the line in to UppCon was a bit long and it was about to rain so we occupied a table at the nearest Burger King and sat there a few hours.

By the time we gotten back to UppCon the line was a bit more normal (meaning: you don't have to wait more then two hours) and we only had to wait for an hour and a half before got our waistbands. Then we just had to get in the line to leave the luggage so it would be shipped to our sleeping rooms. But once we got in it was fun, even thou Madiirje was freezing and we were all wet from the rain. But at least we got to see MinxZone when we were standing outside and waiting in the second line.

Friday cosplay: I got ~CarpeDentum to cosplay Rangiku Matsumoto while I did Momo Hinamori from BLEACH. Our lovely ~Madiirje was our own steam punk inspired sky pirate. I got to meet with a Hitsugya and we took some photos together.

Later at the evening we watched the lolita fashion-show. It was much sweet, little gothic and they were all so cute. Hopefully I can take part next year :D After that we went for pizza and the we felt tired and retired to sleep. :la:

Saturday: I went ahead of the others and went for a BLEACH-photoshoot at the con. We managed to get nine of us put in one photo and it was so much fun. After that I watch some of the BLEACHers training for they’re musical skit and I switched cosplay to Usagi Tsukino. By that time it was many who recognised me, sometimes it took me twice the time to get somewhere because of being stopped and asked to be photographed. But in Sweden Sailor Moon used to run at TV when I was little so it may not be so surprising.

After the rest of the people showed up, I went for second breakfast/lunch at the con and drank some lemonade with some strange name that barley tasted anything but was cold so it was enough. The day pasted with peoplewatching and missing things I had planned to do but just didn't since I forgot them.

But I did see the big cosplay contest. This year we barley got in and got to sit as far of the scene that was possible, that was a lie, there was one more row behind us, but we still got to see some really good and some less good cosplay as we sat there and I almost wanted to be a part of it as well. Who know, perhaps next year? :D

The skits this years was as much fun as last year, even thou no one can beat Norrlänsk cosplayfront who did the opening and ending of the whole cosplay contest. And to find out that it was Lulu from Code Geass that had stolen UppCon was fun as well.
After the cosplay contest was done we saw the AMV contest, or at least that was it was suppose to be. But because of technical issues we did some sort of mini disco inside the room instead. The whole room was dancing to Caramelldansen at some point, and think over thousand people dancing in a room that is made for concerts. It was awesome! :XD:

Then it worked and we got to see some amazing AMVs. After that we felt more the tired and got to sleep.

Sunday was not so much convention for me as I had to go to an interview at the other side of Sweden. So there ends my adventure of UppCon 10. Hopefully it will return next year and that the weather might be a little better. :D

Me at the Friday as Hinamori Momo as we were waiting for the Lolita Fashion Show to begin.

Looking out on the square that the public could also come and take a look at. We mostly sat on the inside and looking at all the funny people we could see, and wondering whether they were cosplaying or not.

I found some friends from Sailor Moon. Usagi: me, Jupiter: Rosenguru-sama, Venus: qwastanja and Mercurius: ?
I can also proudly say that I made the patterns for the school uniforms in this photo.

One of the best shoot I got of my Usagi-cosplay. Here is also the lovely stairs of UppCon, as UppCon would be nothing without them. Snapped by Qwastanja

Double-posted on DeviantART, minus the photos.

Review: greatarchy09 @ ebay.com

I bought my wig for Usagi Tsukino from the seller greatarchy09 at ebay, which has the ebay store Ayanamisatoru cosplay wig.

I payed extra for shipping with DHL, as there are a cheaper but slower shippingoption. The wig was at my home four days after I payed and it was neatly packaged.

The wig itself was a more yellow than on the stores pitcures, but has three different coloured fibres mixed in the wig which makes it look different depending on the light. The fibres are of japanese kanekanol and are very fine and human hair like. They are even thinner than my own hair, which on the other hand are really thick. There is also an comb at the front.

My only problem so far is that the construction of the wig is making it impossible for me to cover up all of my hair. I can cover it all but then I have to pull from every direction to make it stay, and unfortunately my bobby pins can't make it stay all the time. But since it's only two cm at the back showing I can still have it.

Overall: I like the wig and if I only avoid getting shoot from the back it works fine. It just shows very much since I coloured my hair dark recently. :)

Usagi Tsukino - Progress II

So today I got a bit on the blouse. I finshed the collar and the sleeves. The sleeves might have been getting a bit big, but I still like them so I guess I won't do anything about it. All that is left now is to attach the collar and the hem. Just click on the photos for close up.

Left to do: attaching the collar on the blouse and the hem. Sew the skirt and buying the wig and shoes.

Usagi Tsukino - Progress I

I've finally gotten my pattern done. So I started to sew the blouse. I've gotten my front and back together, even thou there is no picture on that. After that I started on the collar, which is almost done. I also cut the collar on side, since it will fall much nicer then, but I'll guess that will show when the whole blouse is done, hopefully this weekend.

Left: last details on the collar, sleeves and putting it all together. Sewing the skirt. Buying the wig and shoes. Making broach and ribbon.
Done: Pattern and socks.

Can't wait until it's done! :D

COSTUME INFO: Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)

Bio: Usagi is the main character in Sailor Moon. She is clumsy, love to play video games and eat cake. One day she meets the talking cat Luna and becomes the protector of love and justice, Sailor Moon. She gets the mission to find the moon princess and gets a lot of friends on the way.

Why?: Sailor Moon was one of the first animes I saw, before I even knew what a anime was, and me and my friends played Sailor Moon all the time when I was small. So when I got the chance to cosplay Usagi I took it. Usagi is also quiet similar to me, we like video game, eating cake and clumsy tripping ones in a while.

Costume Construction: The costume is based off a sketch to the anime design. I started with the blouse and used a pattern for a 50's dress which I modified and constructed the sailor collar. The blouse is sewn in a cotton/elastan, so I could just drag it on to me. The blue fabric is a polyester bi-stretch, and let's the pleats stay in place, at least a little. The skirt was made like a rectangle and pleated. In progress post: Part 1 & Part 2.

The brosh was made of a metal pin covered with filmo clay. Since the brosh I have now is from the first season, I plan to make from more seasons. The wig, socks and shoes were bought. It is 100 % finish, which is a complete success.

Convention Info: At UppCon:10 it was hard for me to take five steps before getting stopped. Sailor Moon is a well known anime in Sweden, as many watched it growing up. I also got two friends who cosplayed --> Minako Aino, Usagi and Makoto Kino.

It is defiantly one of the more comfortable cosplays I have, even thou it can be a little cold in the winter.
